Here’s a little background info. for you so you can be top of the class on Friday!
The Kalak story begins with the fertile soils and mild, oceanic climate of Southern Ireland, recognised as one of the best places in the world to grow malting barley.
Their malting barley is non-GMO and sourced from contracted growers, principally in the South East of Ireland. It is subsequently ‘malted’ right here in Cork, a process which involves steeping, germinating and kilning to release the enzymes while preserving the natural goodness and flavours of the grain.
Once malted, their barley is milled, mashed, fermented and four times copper pot distilled in West Cork. The spirit is then cut to 40% alcohol with pure mountain water and slow filtered before resting and bottling.
Kalak Single Malt Vodka is one of a small number of vodka’s internationally which is distilled from malted barley. Their farm to bottle approach is a tribute to Ireland’s terroir and distillation heritage.
Kalak is a phonetic spelling of “Cailleach”, the Irish Celtic Goddess and Queen of Winter. Kalak was the closest thing the celts had to mother nature. She was the embodiment of the darker, more powerful side of nature, and the side we’ve harnessed to make our product.
Kalak is a true expression of Ireland’s terroir.
It is our land, her weather, and her people’s ancient craft in a bottle.
After almost three year of distillation trials, and input from some of the best distilling minds in the world, Kalak Single Malt Vodka was launched in mid 2015.
Kalak is meticulously crafted from the best of Irish malted barley, and pure mountain water. Four times pot distilled in West Cork, it is pure, smooth and intriguingly complex.
Kalak has since gained a ‘democratic’ following around the world, appealing to both premium vodka drinkers and Whisky lovers.
Nose: Creamy with notes of freshly baked croissants, vanilla and fruity freshness.
Palate: Elegant texture with hints of biscuit, dark chocolate, creaminess and ripe fruit richness.

Distilled four times in a copper pot still, using Irish malted barley and pure mountain water, this single malt vodka is then finished in American virgin oak casks, charred over an Irish peat fire.

Palate: Mellow smokiness evolves with vanilla, gingerbread and creaminess.
